INTRODUCTION

The Beginning-

I became involved in American Bulldogs in 1995. At the time, I was involved in Rottweiler’s. Because of their huge popularity, the breed was suffering. The overall quality and temperaments of Rottie’s were at an all time low. Everybody with a male and a female were cranking out puppies, it was very disappointing. I started to research other breeds. My goal was to find an athletic dog that was not too dog aggressive and not too popular. A good friend of mine named Gary Fuller had just purchased a red and white AB pup named Sissy. I liked her, and asked him to contact the breeder and find out if there were any siblings available. We went to see the puppies, and came home with a little white bundle of energy named Dixie. Dixie turned out to be a great dog and eventually became our foundation bitch. Dixie had everything we were looking for in a great American Bulldog. Dixie had good hips and elbows, excellent movement and structure, a great temperament, and a ton of working drive.  Dixie is now retired, but not before becoming a Grand Champion and a Register of Merit Bitch. There are only two American Bulldogs with this distinction!

Our Goals-

The goal of Souza’s American Bulldogs is to produce the “total package” dog. A good American Bulldog should excel at every task you require of it. It must have a confident, outgoing temperament, as well as good structure and movement. A confident American Bulldog can handle itself well in all situations and isn’t a coward or a bully. Finally, a good American Bulldog must have an abundance of working drive to be harnessed in whatever you wish to do with the dog , whether it be Schutzhund, WABA titles, Ring Sport, NAPD, hog catching, weight pull, Search and Rescue,or Irondog. A good American Bulldog has an intense desire to please it’s master and that’s what makes our breed great.
